Indian Govt.’s Political obstinacy– –Punjab’s Mothers & Sons march to New Delhi to seek Justice from present Czars of Mother India.
The Centre is squarely responsible for farmers’ boil in North India against the new farm bills passed in haste in Covid-19 times convened Indian Parliament taking advantage of absolute majority and weak opposition as the issues were not discussed threadbare. Neither did Indian establishment at the Centre discuss the issues with all the stakeholders in the open public forums before nor could the political masters of present ruling party convince them about efficacy of these so called reforms post passage of bills.
Unfortunately, the alienated farmers chose to march with their kin to speak loud to the deaf ears of Czars of Mother India in Delhi that these newer Bills don’t suit them. Farmers and other stakeholders strongly feel that such laws affect both their livelihoods and independence as they fear that the full corporatization of agriculture which will be the outcome of newer farm laws will virtually enslave them. Farmers say that they will be deprived of adequate price for their produce if the regulated markets under Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act passed in 1964 are abandoned by encouraging market forces at play to buy farm produce.
Instead of supporting Federal States and the farmers for adopting allied vocations other than main crops like Wheat & Paddy on which they get assured price and also Centre not finding ways to take farmers out of Debt-Trap leading to farm suicides continually, the Indian Government thus is abdicating responsibility to redress the farmers issues and leaving them at the mercy of corporate traders. Unfortunately, cooperatives of farmers are not encouraged such as of Amul India – a famous Brand name in Milk collection, processing and sale.
Better, the Czars in Delhi read quickly between the lines of the narrative of farmers’ agitation so that it does not turn uglier as all the revolutions in the world have begun from peasantries and farmers. Already the agrarian state of Punjab has witnessed violence in last century in the 1980s to 1990s which was result of socio-religious-political undercurrent.The Centre must take States into confidence to stem the unrest.
