Let Us Resolve To Spread Love And Peace On Christmas And In The New Year!
The year 2020 will go down in the pages of history as the year of the Covid – 19 pandemic that has killed and infected millions all over the world, forcing people to go through a turbulent period in their lives where they lived in isolation, away from their family and friends. Lockdowns, curfews, hand washing and the use of sanitisers, masks, social distancing and cough etiquette remained the buzz words.
In India, we saw the migrant walking miles to their hometowns in U P and Bihar due to stoppage of trains and buses in lock-down. Quite a few losing their lives on their way back to their homes due to starvation and disease in this panic movement.
Many lost their jobs and had pay cuts. With schools and colleges closed, education has become online and work from home has become the norm for many sectors. The struggle for survival and the fear of being infected by the Corona virus forced many of us to reschedule, abandon or cancel our plans, whether it was for an investment or a vacation.
The year will also be remembered for the continued war, strife and terrorism in the world, for the natural calamities such as bush-fires in Australia and the USA, for the floods and cyclones in the World and for the death of George Floyd due a racial incident in America.
In India we had our fair share of protests, rapes and atrocities on women and the weaker section of the society and other social and economic crimes. At the time of writing, the farmers’ agitation for the withdrawal of the Farm Bills continues.
Despite the Corona pandemic and the natural calamities with all the upheavals in our lives, the Corona warriors, NGO’s, philanthropists and humanity surged forward with courage and conviction to lend a helping hand to the poor, hungry, homeless, infirm and sick.
As I listen to ” Jingle bells, jingle all the way………..” , and the sound from the bell of a church as Christians throughout the world celebrate Christmas, singing hymns in praise of the Lord,I recall the Universality of all the religions in our country, of all the teachings, sermons and sacrifices of all the saints and great Gurus of all religions and religious sects who showed us the path of love, peace and brotherhood and hope.
May we all usher into a blissful New Year ahead!
