INDIA’s FOUNDATIONS THREATENED AGAIN -SAYS MP CH.SANTOKH SINGH AT MAHATMA GANDHI’S NATIONAL MEMORIAL AT PHILLAUR (PUNJAB).
PHILLAUR, JANUARY 30: Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary and Phillaur Assembly constituency incharge Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and many others paid floral tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi here at Gandhi Dham on his 73rd martyrdom day.This is the place where Bapu’s ashes were immersed in Sutlej after his assassination on 30th Jan,1948.
Speaking on this occasion, MP Ch. Santokh Singh said that Gandhi not only led the struggle for India’s independence but also influenced freedom fighters and leaders of civil rights movements around the world. “His potent ideas of non-violence and Satyagrah have universal appeal and his message of peace and tolerance is much needed today,” he added.
The Congress MP further stated that today’s India is again threatened by the same divisive ideology and forces which killed Gandhi. “Today, everyone, including the Dalits, Muslims, students, activists and farmers, is being targeted and persecuted by Modi Government. Gone are the days when the government protected rights of citizens and cared about their well-being,” he said.
Former Punjab Youth Congress president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary said that Gandhi’s rise from an ordinary young man to a global statesman is an inspiration for the youth. He informed that Gandhi ji’s ashes were immersed in the river Satluj on 12 February, 1948, adding that the much needed renovation and beautification work on the Gandhi Dham memorial would begin soon.
Zila Parishad Member Harmesh Lal, Block Samiti Phillaur Chairman Davinder Singh Lasara, Phillaur Market Committee Chairman Makhan Singh Khaira, former Phillaur Municipal Council President Narinder Goyal, Phillaur City Congress President Balak Ram, former Municipal Councillors of Phillaur Paramjit Bharti, Yashpal Ginda, Shankar Sandhu and Raj Kumar Hans, Paramjit Singh Akalpur, Jeeta Rupowal, Parmanand Pamma, Satpal Cheema, Sunny Trikha, Parwinder Kaur and Arshdeep were among those present on the occasion.
Meanwhile Mahatma Gandhi Peace Mission Org Sec Brij Goyal also echoed the sentiments expressed by MP Chowdhry Santokh Singh . Mission activists while paying tributes said that we should untidily resolve to rise above communal and religious hatred to keep the legacy of values for which martyrdom of Bapu Gandhi will always keep reminding us .We hope that memorial site will soon be given befitting face lift by Punjab Govt.
