Women Empowerment- DC distributes laptops, and tabs to women farmer producer companies
Ludhiana, June 16:
To empower rural women, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Friday distributed laptops, printers, tablets, etc to three farmers’ producing companies (FPCs) headed by women of the district.
These companies namely Lapran Multipurpose Farmer Producer Company, Barundi Agro Farmer Producer Company, and Sutluj Women Farmer Producer Company were formed in September 2022.
In an event organized at Bachat Bhawan, Deputy Commissioner said that these assets would offer an essential learning experience for women farmers under Digital India Initiative besides assisting them in maintaining the transparency of the company’s accounts, transactions, bills, and member details. She said that this was a local economic development project by Grant Thornton Bharat and HDFC Parivartan. She said that the project’s main objective was to empower the economic conditions of the below-par farmers, especially women in the district, by up-skilling and making them eligible for various government schemes. Each company has more than 300 members.
Malik expressed hope that these women-led FPCs will emerge as a powerful catalyst for rural development and women’s empowerment by promoting inclusive development in the agricultural sector and dairy farming. She said that by empowering women through FPCs, they gain greater control over farming and dairy activities, more access to markets, and opportunities for capacity building. Moreover, their increased participation in the decision-making process leads to more sustainable and equitable agricultural practices.
Deputy Commissioner also underlined the need for encouraging more such FPCs by starting a special drive in villages thereby empowering the women. She also lauded the efforts of Grant Thornton Bharat under the HDFC Parivartan Project.
Prominent among those present included Assistant Commissioner Aparna MB, Director Rajesh Jain, Manager GT Bharat Manpreet Singh, and others.
