Saying goodbye to a departing soul from this mortal world through poetry to an acclaimed poet of the soil on his untimely death is really the most difficult by any poet’s lovers who remained always drenched in his poetry. The solace and catharsis the poetry provides to vent out emotions on loss of a dear one who is sentimentally attached through poetry is befitting tribute indeed.Many an Alumni poets amongst Alumni Fraternity of SCD Govt College, Ludhiana paid their soulful tributes by a few poignant poems besides heartfelt condolences by other on demise of the beloved poet, Surjit Patar visited Govt College, Ludhiana a number of times

A lament on Surjit Patar
Surjit, you are fled behind the veil,
leaving behind a legacy,
suffused with insights rare,
plumbing deep into the recesses of human nature,
dredging out pearls of vision,
profound and intense,
empathizing with groans of the suffering humanity,
their agony and anguish,
their distress and privation,
reeling under injustice and apathy,
transmuting their tears and sighs,
into golden letters of your verses,
wowing zillions of hearts,
with a spell never to abate,
with an incantation of a melody,
flowing like a stream of mellifluous strains,
permeating into the nerves and capillaries of readers,
enchanting them with a perennial felicity,
of your Muse,
buzzing with vibes ethereal and surreal.
You will live , forever, in your verses ,
eluding the remorseless rush of Time.
Your name will endure the fiery elements of Nature ,
and continue inspiring
generation after generation.

ਪੰਡ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰ ‘ਤੇ ਚੱਕ ਕੇ
ਮਹਿਫ਼ਲ ‘ਚੋਂ
ਚੁੱਪ ਚਾਪ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
-ਇੱਕ ਸੁਪਨਾ-ਇੱਕ ਗੀਤ
ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੈੜ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ-ਕਾਗਜ਼ਾਂ- ਕੈਨਵਸਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ
ਮਖਮਲੀ ਸਟੇਜ ‘ਤੋਂ
ਉਁਤਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ-ਇੱਕ ਪਾਤਰ
ਸਮੇਂ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ
-ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ-ਸੁਪਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਰਧਾਰ।
ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਇਹ
ਸੂਰਜਾਂ-ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਜ਼ਮ ਸੁਣਾਵੇਗਾ
ਮਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਮਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਮਸਕਾਉਂਦਾ
ਪੋਲੇ ਪੋਲੇ ਪੈਰ ਧਰਦਾ
ਇਹ ਫਿਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ-ਮੁਸਕਰਾਵੇਗਾ
ਯਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਫ਼ਲ ਵਿੱਚ
‘ ਬਾਬਿਓ ਕਿੱਦੈਂ ਫਿਰ’ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ

ਜਜ਼ਬਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਓਸ
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਿਆ
ਬੌਧਿਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਸਹਿਜ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਕਰ
ਭਾਵਨਾ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ –

ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਦਿਸੇ ਹੱਥ ਨੂੰ

ਕਰੇ ਮੁੜ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਜੋ ਪਾਤਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ

ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਐ
ਉਹ ਹਨੇਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਰਦਾ – ਵੰਗਾਰਦਾ
ਸ਼ਮਾਦਾਨ ਤਾਈਂ
ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ – ਕਹਿੰਦਾ
ਉਹ ਇਕ ਤੋਰ ਹੈ
ਯਕੀਨਨ ਇਕ ਤੋਰ
ਐਪਰ ਹਰ ਮਨ
ਹਰ ਘਰ ਹੈ ਰਹੇ ਬਹਿੰਦਾ…

माहिरे गुफ़्तार थे वो
मुखर भी प्रखर भी
शब्दों को कविता में
सजा के
मौजूदा मसलों की बात
कहते थे वो
क़लम की ताक़त को
बाखूबी
पहचानते थे वो
पर उस पर लगे पहरे
बात को
मुस्करा के कह देते थे वो
समाज की नपुंसकता को
खूब पहचानते थे वो
मज़दूरों और मजबूरों की
बात करके
समाज और सरकारों को
जता देते थे वो
कुछ ज़िंदा बचे लोगो में से
एक थे वो
सौदा नहीं किया ना बिके
किसी बाज़ार में
बगाबती शब्दों का परचम
को
लहराया और फहराया
उसने
ताकि मुर्दा समाज और
ज़मीर को
जगाकर जो हक़ माँग
सके
ये दबे कुचले बुझे से लोग
तेरी कविताओं
जग ना पायेंगे
सोएँ है दक़ियानूसी
बातों की चादर ओढ़ कर
और
नींद के सपनों से खुश है ये लोग
ना सपने नींद के और ना कोशिश तुम्हारी
कम ना होगी कभी ऐ “पात्र “
लफ़्ज़ों के सुरों की जीत होगी
