Dr Navtej, historian sees aura of EX PM Late Dr Manmohan Singh in his daughter historian Dr Upinder Singh.

Dr Navtej Singh, An alumni of SCD Govt college Ludhiana who later became an acclaimed Historian, Professor and Head, (Retd.), Department of Punjab Historical Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala, while condoling the sad demise of our revered EX PM Dr Manmohan Singh said that he was an epitome of humility, honesty and hard work throughout his educational era, bureaucratic stint in various key positions in India and abroad and in public life as PM of India twice. Dr Navtej said that he was reminded of his daughter Dr. Upinder Singh and wished to share about the aura of traits of her father she carries too. Navtej writes:

“ I met Dr Upinder Singh twice. Firstly, at her department to request her to preside over the ancient section of the Punjab History conference. Secondly, when she came to our Punjabi University, Patiala to preside over. I was informed about her by Dr Nyanjot Kaur who was her colleague. At the very first meeting she immediately accepted my request. I found her so gentle, humble but a brilliant personality. When she came to preside over at the conference, she came as a common person, not being daughter of the then Honourable Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. She spoke very sharply about her understanding of Ancient India and Punjab. I read reviews of her pioneer works on Ancient Indian history. She is a well-known authority on her subject who believe in the serious and logical perspective of history.

I have all regards for her and wish that she will contribute more in her area of specialisation on which she has expertise and will become another epitome of brilliance like her father too to be remembered long !”
