Juvenile Mental Health issues deliberated by SCD Alumni Govt. College Ludhiana Alumni—they suggest practical ways out of experience.

Continuing the tradition of meaningful positive dialogue alive on their online interaction a group of Alumni of SCD Govt. College Ludhiana concerned about the Juvenile Mental Health issue deliberated the issue seriously.

Initiating the debate Dr Sunil Chopra quoted UNICEF data which said that one in every seven in India is depressed, one which requires thoughtful interventions right at the school level to prepare an upbeat generation. He suggested that letter writing habits be encouraged which is a great stress buster and children be allowed to express formally this way in schools.

Manjit Singh Sandhu, a former Kendriya Vidyalaya Principal says that letter writing certainly can be a valuable tool for children coping with stress, as it promotes emotional expression and reflection. By putting their thoughts and feelings into words, children can better understand and process their emotions, which can alleviate anxiety and frustration. At the same time, it’s high time to get back to the basics and digital education be used the least in the teaching and   learning process in classrooms. He quoted about Sweden which has shifted back to printed text Books and is investing Euros 104 million citing concerns that the digital approach hindered the development of fundamental skills like reading and writing.

Prof P K Sharma, A senior journalist suggested that children always need novel and experimental handling and grooming up every now and then. Besides letter writing, many more stress-free exercises ought to be tried off and on. He remembered in his college days, in vacant periods he and his fellow students used to go to the music room and played and listened to guitar and other musical instruments. He said that the nation must go in for steady changes to channelize the energies of the children as India’s demographic dividend is the best asset and wealth if it is utilized properly. world. After floating the National Education Policy, any ruling party at the helm of the nation must ensure that this policy must undergo a review after a five years span to effect improvisation where and when needed. The political or partisan approach should have no place in the policy formulation ever.

Another Alumni teacher Narinder Singh Mason said that every student must be taken good care of by the parents, who must never compare, degrade their own wards during the examination days. The benevolence of grandparents and their blessings always help children to beat stress through exam pangs. Further, the teachers have to go the extra mile monitoring every student to see that they inculcate the habit of working all year round, thus preparing for the finals meticulously and

K B Singh stressed to assess the skilling and reskilling needs of children and adolescent at every regular intervals.

Brij Bhushan Goyal the organizing secretary for the Alumni Association gave a call to all the teachers of schools and colleges to go the extra mile in understanding every child in their classes thus keeping positivity in their life. Placing student suggestion boxes in schools and colleges is one step to extract their concerns and expression by students is quite therapeutic. He also said that experience showed that a timely pat and intervention by a teacher makes all the difference in the lives of the students later . Goyal said more such dialogues benefitting our society shall continue.

Students learn better when they are not out under unnecessary pressure. No doubt, careful preparation and timely support of teachers and parents, even peers is significant, yet clear thinking as well as correct answering comes from a Stress Free Mind.
Efforts to make a student’s life devoid of undue anxiety is a sure shot method to succeed.
